The clubgrounds of the "Club Gymnique Lumière" (CGL) are situated on the territory of Veyrier, a small village on the foot of the Salève mountain, on the outskirts of Geneva – the smallest of the world’s great cities, as it is affectionately called by many.

Thanks to its privileged situation, the CGL is an excellent point of departure for many excursions and visits.

Within a stone’s throw of the clubgrounds, Mount Salève – the Genevans’ favourite mountain – affords you plenty of hiking and mountain-biking opportunities. Hang-gliding and paragliding enthusiasts will get their kicks from the sun-drenched cliff and its exceptional up-currents. For the less courageous there is the cable car to bring them to the top, from where a panoramic view permits to admire from above not only Geneva and its lake, but also the sheer endless range of the Jura mountains on the far side of the lake, as well as the Mont-Blanc and the nearby Alps.

Barely sixty kilometres away lies Chamonix and its alpine world where one mustn’t miss to admire from close up the awe-inspiring Mont-Blanc, the sky-piercing Aiguilles-du-Midi and the eternal ice of the Mer de Glace.

The picturesque town of Annecy and its jewel of a lake are half an hour’s car ride away and are well worth a detour.

A drive around Lake Geneva (one direction or the other) lets you discover the many charming towns and villages that are strung around it, such as Coppet, Nyon, Rolle, Morges and their respective castles, Lausanne (Olympic Museum and vineyards of the "Riviera vaudoise"), Vevey, Montreux and its famed Chillon Castle, Le Bouveret (railway theme park), Saint-Gingolph (half Swiss, half French – the border running right through the middle of the town), Evian (spa and gambling casino), Thonon (spa and castle), Douvaine, Yvoire, …

Back in Geneva, discover the lakeshores and the lively and beautifully decorated shorewalks, the famous "Jet d’Eau" (Geneva’s hallmark and the world’s highest reaching fountain: 460 feet on a calm day!) Idle in the green of the many flower-abundant public parks, stroll along the cool and narrow streets and secret passageways of the old town, curled around the cathedral and chock-a-block with antiques shops, art galleries and typical "bistrots".

For your shopping, there is the "Rues Basses" District with its many elegant boutiques and department stores. Last but not least, every Wednesday and Saturday, a colourful flea market is held at the "Plaine de Plainpalais".

A stay in Geneva wouldn’t be complete without a visit to at least one of the many places and institutions which are at the origin of Geneva’s worldwide renown: Palais des Nations (UN headquarters), Headquarters and Museum of the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as the many specialized UN agencies, such as ILO, WHO, WIPO, WMO, HCR, etc.

Geneva has some thirty museums, including the Museum of Art and History and its branches (Museum of Watchmaking, History of Science Museum, Maison Tavel [Geneva history], Ariana [porcelains], Rath Museum [fine arts] etc.), as well as the Ethnographical Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Voltaire Institute and Museum, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Botanical Conservatory and Garden, several Automobile Museums, the Museum and Château de Penthes, to name but a few. Together they house prestigious collections which bear witness to the creativity and cultural influence of Geneva.

In August, during the "Fêtes de Genève" (Geneva Lake Festival), the whole town is one big party. On the day after, it would only seem natural to take one of the many excursion boats and recuperate from the excitement on a relaxing trip around the lake or, more modestly, a criss-cross ride in the "Petit Lac" (the Geneva end of Lake Geneva).

What could be more reassuring, after such an eventful day, than to return to the CGL, to take a rest, to relax, to dive into the pool, to bear a toast to a wonderful holiday – all that in a truly genuine naturist and sociable atmosphere, and then lie down to sleep the sleep of the just in the peace and healthy air of the Geneva countryside.

The Club Gymnique Lumière would be honoured and happy to welcome you on – or on our way to – your next naturist holidays.
